When you train a horse on a daily basis, you're a part of the horse's movement, you're a part of his motion. Everything that the horse experiences is coming from you. There's a total connection -- a true friendship -- and the connection touches the soul completely.
I offer the following for horses stabled at your yard:
Primary training for all horses and ponies being backed and worked for the first time; I don't believe in 'quick fixes' and don't like the word 'breaking'. All elements of any training I do with a young horse are progressive and give a young horse time to develop without pressure; it includes lunge work on a chambon to develop and strengthen the correct muscles, ground work, pole work and obedience training. Only when a young horse is physically and mentally ready to be ridden it is taken to the next level. As every horse is different and has its own quirks and specific characteristics we would need to sit down and discuss the time scale and the outcomes of the training. These need to be flexible and would provide us with invaluable information on the horse's progress. Your horse could be filmed/photographed at various stages.
Basic training for all horses and ponies that accepted a saddle, have been through the initial training and are ready to be schooled further. This stage includes a lot of playing with a horse rather than serious schooling. Regular hacking, obedience training, ground work, short schooling sessions, lunging a few times a week for 20-25 minutes. Anything I do at this stage has a primary goal of keeping a youngster happy in his work, interested and stimulated and most of all moving freely and energetically at all times. Again I would expect your full involvement in your youngster's programme as well as your opinions and comments to be shared with me. - Free jumping Free schooling is one of the great ways to teach your horse how to jump efficiently, neatly and with style without the necessary strain that a rider puts on him. It is especially valuable for young horses but can also be used to revive the joy of jumping in older horses. Free jumping requires careful preparation if it is to be beneficial to a horse.
- Schooling for prelim/novice dressage, British novice/discovery BSJA and intro/pre-novice eventing These sessions can be tailored to the level at which your horse is at present or I could aim to get him ready for the lower level affiliated/non-affiliated shows in a discipline of your choice. I would like to build a competition record here in the UK so please do let me know if you are interested in me competing your horse.
